My name is Margaret Soto (Peggy). I was raised as a Catholic. Went to a catholic school. I graduated school for Medical Assisting in 1999. I have 4 boys and A Grand daughter and son now. My husband is from Honduras. In 2004 he was caught here at his job site undocumented only…nothing more. He did about 2 months in a maximum security prison while we collected the money to pay his bond. At the time I was pregnant with our 2nd son. Our first son was 3. My husband was allowed to return home with us until the next court date.
Within the next few months, I had complications with my pregnancy and was put into the hospital for 2 months. Then the doctors took our baby to the emergency room for a C section. He was 3 months early, and weighing 3 pounds. He was good thank god. Only just a few minor problems. Well after the maximum allowed time given to my husband, he had to leave. He voluntarily deported when our youngest was 5 months old.
We were told he could return in 6 to 9 months since we were married and he was my husband. We were mislead, lied to. We were not told about app fees, needing a sponsor etc.. and that I would have to pay on my own being a single mother while he was gone.
Today is 3/23/13 and it is 7 1/2 years later. We are still not with daddy and my husband. He is a good man. He currently is a teacher in Honduras, a kid at heart. He loves being outside, at parks, fishing, nature walking, swimming. Every Sunday we were at a different park and then we would go out to eat. He is a good father and a hard worker.
2013 I have just recently found a sponsor but I am struggling with the rest of the application fees being a single mother. With all the talk of immigration laws being changed finally, I want to make sure we are not forgotten. All the families who are all ready separated. My husband could have ran after being caught, like so many do, but we chose to do it the right way. So he went back home thinking he would be able to return in 6 to 9 months. Yeah right.
Hello a lot has happened since my last post above. Today is November 11, 2017. Above I mentioned I had finally found a sponsor after years of looking. I call him my angels Him and his wife. I did not know them before he contacted me and told me he would sponsor my husband. Ok so almost 10 years had past. after I couldn’t find a sponsor I told my husband to go to the embassy there to see what he could do. He filed for a tourist visa i believe is what it was and got his interview and they told him he had to get some things and come back. Then they denied it because i all ready had a i 130 going here and we could not do 2 different things, My husband was so upset and felt there was nothing left that could be done. He gave up after 10 years. Well he did something that was not good but mind you it had been 10 years and he just gave up….he got married there to his son’s mother and did not tell me. They were not together long before he realized he messed up and trying to get a divorce. But I have talked to a lawyer here who says I can fight our case because We were married 1st and in actuality his marriage there is illegal and not valid because he is all ready married here. In the mean time i was fighting one last time is what i told my husband.. I will try 1 last time. So I finally got everything paid and the ds-260 app filled out and turned into immigration. I did all this alone with no lawyer because i have no money for a lawyer. It was time for my husband’s interview appointment at the embassy in Honduras. They denied him. and sent me a letter saying our case was sent back to immigration here in the states and that our marriage was not bonefied. This letter was sent to me last November in 2016 telling me that i had to give immigration 180 days to come to a decesion whether they thought our marriage is legit! 180 days was up in May. I call every month and get the run around. They do not know exactly where our case is or who for me to talk to or how long it will be. I will not let Immigration win!! Our boys deserve to know their father and have him here. My husband and all of us have paid the price and done more than enough time for him being here undocumented!!
